Summer's Out for School

According to the scorching temperatures outside, how quickly the grass is growing and the amount of rain that falls every day, summer is not going anywhere anytime soon. However, if you pass by the school supply sections of your closest Wal-Mart or Target, it's easy to tell that back-to-school shopping has replaced the fun of summer vacations and lounging by the pool. Once again, it's that time of year when roughly 24% of the US population heads back to school.

According to the National Retail Federation's annual survey, this year families will spend an average of about $600 on back-to-school shopping or about $800 on back-to-college shopping. Those costs include clothing, electronics and school supplies - and usually mean less money spent at the dentist's office.

There couldn't be a better time for Knight to make a few announcements about upcoming product, pricing and turnaround changes, all to your benefit. Read ahead! And don't forget to check out the valuable coupon found at the bottom of each of these e-newsletters, exclusively from Knight Dental Group!

KNIGHT WORKING TO BUILD ECONOMIC CONFIDENCE
The ADA Releases 2011 Q2 Confidence Survey Results, and Knight Dental Group Responds

According to the ADA's quarterly Survey of Economic Confidence, the second quarter of 2011 saw a downturn in dentist confidence. This downward movement, however, is consistent with past Q2 dips, which indicates a seasonal effect on the economics of today's practice. Here are some brief highlights of the survey results:

  • When asked, based upon the first six months of 2011, to project how their net income for all of 2011 was going to be compared to 2010, respondents projected a decrease of 3.4%, on average.
  • Forty percent of respondents said gross billings stayed the same in Q2, while 37.6% indicated a decrease. Just over 22% indicated an increase in gross billings.
  • Only 15.8% of respondents reported an increase in the number of new patients, compared to 43.9% who stated it remained the same and 40.3% who saw a decrease.
  • When asked about their confidence in future economic conditions, dentists were on the negative side, as they were in 2010. Less than 10% were very confident, while 45.2% were somewhat confident and another 45.2% were not at all confident. Interestingly, the younger the dentist, the more confident. About one-fifth of dentists under the age of 35 were very confident about the future economy, while only 5% of dentist ages 65 or older were confident.
  • While the results are similar to 2010 results, the drop in confidence was less severe than the previous year.

But, what does this mean for you?

Knight Dental Group knows that our clients are looking for cost savings and cutting-edge products to make up some of the lost revenue. Here are a couple of things that Knight is doing to help:

  • Improved processes that lead to reductions in alloy costs, faster turnaround times and better accuracy. We have recently begun scanning, designing and milling wax copings for all PFMs. Our future plans include processing full contour waxing and press restorations in our Milling Center as well.
  • This fall, Knight will unveil a new and improved fee schedule that will better reflect our cost saving processes and products. Additionally, we are simplifying our fee schedule to make your selection process easier.
  • In October, we are launching the idapa™ system, which will be a technology breakthrough in how we communicate with our clients and fabricate your restorations. Watch for more information to become available soon!
